Japan to raise nuke non-proliferation issue at G8 summit

April 1, 2008 - TOKYO, April 1 (Itar-Tass) - Japan at the Group of Eight summit this year intends to actively raise the issue of spreading of nuclear weapons on the planet, including the situation around Iran and North Korea, it is said in a white paper on disarmament and non-proliferation presented in Tokyo on Tuesday by Japanese Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura.

It is stressed in the document that a nuclear tests and missile tests in North Korea presented a serious threat to East Asia and the whole world. In this connection Tokyo calls on the international community to exert new efforts in order to put an end to Pyongyang’s military programmes.
